Keeping Tracks
A small game about placing down train tracks between cities.
Made as part of a jam style challenge following rules one would for a jam such as the Ludem Dare Compo.
READ
- You get money only when you finish a route.
- To place tracks, select a tile next to a city and press build, it costs money though. From there you just go tile to tile until you reach another city and finish the route.
- Cities will build to meet you. You only need to provide the tracks in between. They still count for your passenger satisfaction though.
- Passengers don't like seeing the same terrain in a row. Try alternating or showing them something new to gain more money.
- If the passengers hate the trip enough, they will steal from you.
- You can undo track placement but only if you haven't finished the route yet. Once it is finished, it is set in stone!
- The map is quite large. So you should be able to find somewhere you can earn some easy money.
- Water is stupid expensive to build over. Only do so in the late game when chasing a high-score.
- Mountains are expensive early. Cities will build out to meet you. Get some free mountain routes by building towards cities located on the edge of mountains.
- Try to achieve a high-score and share the seed with friends for a friendly competition.
- Only way to restart currently is to refresh the page.
- The game was intended to be playable on mobile ( which it is though on good mobile screens the UI is tiny ). So everything is done with left click for desktop.
KNOWN BUG:
There is one known bug. Currently you can attempt to build a track next to an older part of the same route. If you do, the game WILL CRASH. So I don't recommend. Build only at the front of the current route. Or test it early, so you understand the limitations.
